How to use the Finger Number Tiles

Use these finger number tiles for both beginning students and even intermediate students to help them in various ways.

Ideas for beginning students:

• Teach finger numbers by having the student tap the number with the appropriate finger
• Create finger number exercises by mixing up the numbers and having students tap it out with the correct fingers
• Have the students create their own finger number exercises by arranging the numbers then tapping it out
• Combine finger numbers with learning the piano keys by placing the finger number tiles on the keys and having the student play each key with the correct finger
• If student is struggling to remember what finger numbers start a piece, give them the interaction of picking the correct number and placing it beside the score before they play it.
• Combine with musical alphabet and/or sight reading note tiles for even more activities

Ideas for intermediate students

• Teach scale finger numbers by lining up the finger number tiles on the small music tiles board or music stand and having the student tap out or play the correct order
• Teach finger numbers for runs by laying out just the finger numbers needed and having the student tap out the correct finger numbers
• Create finger number exercises by mixing up the finger number tiles and having the student play a small excerpt with different finger numbers
• Have students line out the finger numbers for inversions
• Create 2 lines of finger number patterns on the small music tiles board and have students tap with both hands together (top line for right hand and bottom line for left hand).
