Teaching Ideas for Music Tiles Small Board:

How to use the Music Tiles Small Board with Music Escapades Finger Number Tiles:

  • Create finger number exercises by lining up LH and RH then finger numbers
  • You can start with patterns in order (1-2-3-4-5) and then, as the student gains confidence, mix up the patterns (2-2-1-4-4)
  • For even more advanced practice, have the students tap the finger number patterns for both RH and LH at the same time!

How to use the Music Tiles Small Board with Music Escapades Sight Reading Note/Accidental Tiles:

  • Pick notes at random and place them together then have the student sight read each note. Mix and match treble and bass clef and accidentals.
  • Additionally, you can have treble clef notes on the top line and bass clef notes on the bottom line and students must sight-read both together.
  • Create intervals between the top and bottom lines that the student must identify.

How to use the Music Tiles Small Board with Music Escapades’ Rhythm Tiles:

  • Create small rhythm excerpts for the student to practice one line at a time.
  • More advanced students can try to tap out the two lines of rhythm at the same time. Mix up the rhythms to keep your students on their toes!

Mix and Match the tiles!

  • Use the finger numbers and note/accidental tiles to create little exercises. Line up finger numbers on one line and notes on the other line. This is a great way to introduce pentascales in all keys!
  • If a student is struggling with finger numbers for a section of music, have them lay out a measure with the note/accidental tiles and then every single finger number needed. When they have mastered it, start removing one finger number tile at a time until they can do the entire measure without the finger number tiles!
  • Lay out a rhythm pattern on the top and notes or finger numbers on the bottom and the student must tap or play the correct notes & rhythm.

There are so many ways that our music tiles and music tiles small board can enhance your teaching!
